I use reaper primarily for song writing. It's absolutely amazing and usually works perfectly. One small issue: I run into trouble when I write a part that's a single measure long. (Maybe a short transition or something similar) From that point on in the song, in order to make changes to a part I have to: mouse wheel in ~10 clicks, adjust the length of the part (etc), then mouse wheel out another ~10 clicks to get back to a view where I can see the whole song. For every single part, every single adjustment. What's worse, I lose where the time cursor was, as the mouse wheel zooms in on the time cursor. So it's a huge pain to adjust the length or position of any part, or to even set the time cursor to somewhere that's not in the middle of a part. Considering I use roughly 100 tracks, with some songs containing more than 500+ items, this extra zoom in / zoom out time starts to add up quickly. There is no such issue in a song where I don't insert a single measure. I can keep the zoomed out view the entire time I'm writing, and can move parts with no issues, snap functioning perfectly. Now I don't want to have reaper start to affect my songwriting process, but it's getting to the point where I'm thinking to myself "Do I *really* want to add this one extra measure? Is it worth the headaches for the next few weeks as I continue to work on the song?" This isn't good. The tool should serve the human, not the other way around. What's the solution here? Can I add a marker at a timestamp that says "treat this time index as zero, it counts as a major tick from here onward" (or until the next "reset" marker!) Please note that using regions doesn't help here (and I use regions liberally) as it is necessary to adjust parts within the region itself.
