Hu guys, Yesterday i replaced both handbrake cables, Shoes, Discs, Pads and fitting kits. Quite a easy job to do, although after i fitted everything and tightened up the adjusters, and then tightened up the handbrake adjuster, i found that the handbrake adjuster, wound all the way in, and did not tighten the handbrake as much as i would have liked, although it does brake fine adn holds the car. Would the replacement cables be slightly longer than the originals, although the cables, i bought from parts for volvos online, and i have used them many times before without any problems. regards stuart

Hi cam, yeh, i did that. You should always loosen of teh handbrake adjuster, replace your shoes, adjust you adjuster at the shoes before adjusting hand brake cable. I just seem to have more travel on new calbels than i did with old ones, and i cant take up any more slack as hand brake adjuster is fully tightened.

i dont know if its the way you want to do it but i have used a spacer (old socket over the threaded bit) as you proberly know to take slack out on an audi,if not mate it must be the cables, good luck. sorry mate just looked at the hand brake article and it looks like you cant do that on these models,i should look more first, sorry cam.

yeh i know what your saying cam, as i have done that to previous vehicles, although i would rather not do that to my volvo. I am just curious, as to why this has happened, and what i can do to rectify teh problem.
