I would like to know how to use arpeggiators in rhythmic combination with a Pro Tools system. I think I would need the master Pro Tools system with a midi line out going to a midi thru device, which would go to the inputs of all my arpeggiators. My arpeggiators would be going to a midi merger to my interface's input. The output of the pro tools system would be generating MTC for the arpeggiators, and MMC for other pro tools systems. This is all just my theory so please tell me if I don't know what I am talking about.

Not quite enough info to go on, but in general, in PT make sure you select for MIDI Beat clock to go out to whatever it is you want to sync (assuming you've also properly set that up in the PT MIDI Studio so it is recognized by PT). Then, for each individual external device you want to sync, make sure you set it to receive MIDI clock info from the MIDI in, which would be PT. For example, on my Yamaha Motif XS8, I can select MIDI sync for either external or MIDI (or Auto, but we don't need to worry about that here). On internal, the MIDI clock is whatever tempo I have set on the Motif. But, on MIDI, arps on the Motif will play according to the tempo clock sent from PT. that way it syncs up perfectly with the session tempo. I can layer arp'd voices too, such as some from Xpand and the Motif and anything else. So, for whatever arp devices you're using, you need to figure how to set the equivalent parameters that way.

By sending MTC am I sending MIDI beat clock? Or is midi beat clock something completely different. Can I send these different signals out of the same MIDI cable? I want to run this arpeggiator in loop play mode... that shouldn't effect the tempo right?

Slave the MTC via Pro Tools MIDI Beat Clock and switch the internal Clock of the MTC to External. You will need MIDI Out Pro Tools MIDI In MTC.

So by generating MTC I am generating MIDI beat clock? I think you misunderstood what i said, FILO. I want to have the pro tools session dictating the tempo to the arpeggiator.

It is you who is mistaken. Re-read my reply and read the Pro Tools Reference Guide and your MTC manual.

I just want to make sure I can send all of these MIDI signals through one cable.
