Many of you will know I have had problems with my S40 2.0T SE pulling to the left for some time now - despite a 4 wheel alignment and a number of new components. Driving to work this morning I heard a noise like there was something rattling in the glove box. Unfortunately I think it's a bit more serious than that! The noise is best described as a rattling type noise (try and imagine something in your glove box) and only really occurs when going over bumps, allbeit minor ones. The noise is definitely from the front near side which is the side that has recently had a new spring so it's not that. Any ideas please? Is this a sign of a worn shocker? Pushing down on the wing doesn't reveal any excess play (measure bey the bounce of the car). Looking to get the car in a garage today so appreciate any input first. Thanks.
I have exaclty the same thing and had it checked by main dealer. They said it wasnt anything to worry about.....There was some very good advice from a previous post which I will try to find

Have you had the wheel hubs checked out of interest? The noise coming form that area would relate to the off-side suspension setup (in theory) You have the shock, top mounts etc etc, maybe a warn bush on the control arm or similar. Can't believe that this hasn't been sorted by a garage yet....what do we pay mechanics good money for lol

Not had the hubs checked no - what should I be looking for there? I presume you mean it will be related to the NEAR side front rather than the off side? Bushes all checked and appear ok. Have had many garages look at this now and still not really any further on :( Cheers
Sorry yea meant Near Side....not really sure what to check on the hub, never had an issue, just strip the wheel off, make sure everything is tight and cosy and that there are no loose cables (break lines etc) make sure the strut itself looks good and check the top mounts....if required remove the shock and spring assembly complete and check it for visible signs of damage or 'sponginess'
Cheers. It's been up on the ramps more times than I can remember and has been visibly checked over by several garages. It's had a new bottom mount and ball joint and the top mounts are both in good condition. The suspension leg has been off and refitted a couple of times and there are no signes of any damage to that either. I really am at a loss. Thanks for your suggestions though.
