I recently purchased th MBOX with ProTools LE 6.1, and I am having one heck of a time with it. I am hearing static during the recording of vocals. I don't hear any static after I imput audio onto a track. I only hear it during recording on a track. I have tried to adjust the volume, and I purchased a mic that is a condenser mic with 19mm capsule with an ultra-thin diaphragm (if that means anything), and I also have a Monster cable for the mic. I am over hear pulling out my hair trying to figuare it out. The program that I am running is windows XP professional, ummm... on a AMD 1700 XP, and I have 256 RAM in my computer. Please understand that I NEW with using the MBOX and ProTools . Any suggestions at all???? Please Help Me!!!!
if u read the requirements for pro tools its says that 312 of ram is required and that 512 is recomended. that is probably the case. go into the audio folder and find the track you are hearin the static in pro tools. play that through your default audio player and see if there is static in it without going through pro tools if there isn't then its because of your ram. buy a 512 stick to put in there under 100 bucks if u just look around. thats my suggestion
I have tried that and didnt hear static. It's only when I am recording that I am hearing static. So, I guess that I am going to get more "Ram" tomorrow, and I will let you all know how that goes. In the meantime I need all and any help that I can get. P.S. Does this usally happen with the Mbox/ProTools LE software?
most condenser microphones have a small amplifier inside, which requires some power to run, and the condenser capsule itself needs to be charged. This is normally provided over the mic cable in the form of phantom power. There's a switch on the mbox to turn it off and on. The papers that came with your mic will tell you if it's needed, or post the make and model and somebody here can tell you. But you'll probably find you need to add some RAM to your computer, ProTools likes at least 384Meg.
You were right tele_player! I read the mic manual, and yes the phatom power is on. Would 384 in ram be enough or should I go up to 512. Oh! and by the way I just a cheap mic today to get use to working with the PorTools Le. It's a Samson C01, but I already order AKG C3000 that I should have within the next week. Thanks Again, you all are great!
