hi,due some new tyres on s60 and wanted to improve the hard ride.had read suggestions on here of going up a profile to improve ride a bit but checked on tyre bible site suggests if i went to 50 from 45 would need to change from 225/45/17 to 205/50/17 to keep the speedo accurate.think im probably pushing it at that, any thoughts, thanks
Hiya, it might be possible but I guess if you're going down 2 widths we need to know how wide your alloys are. Do you know the Volvo name for them? Or have a photo? For example, Volans from an 850 are 17"x7J (7 inches wide rim) and you can fit a range of tyres widths to that rim size. Cheers, Pete

Hi Paul, To your original question , 225/45/17 and 205/50 /17 both have a rolling outside diameter of 636mm so the speedo will be ok and your comfort will improve.
Yes, it'll need smaller diameter rims. This is the cheapest option for softening the ride. Made quite a diffo on my Omega when I changed cars and went from a 225/55/16 to a 205/65/15 ride - plus less tramlining and jitteriness, too.
